Major Area Road Projects.

Several major road projects are either under way or in the late planning stages in our area. They involve Northpark Dr., Kingwood Dr., Hamblen Rd., FM 1960, Woodland Hills Rd. and W. Lake Houston Pkwy.

As you are aware the Kingwood area is experiencing tremendous growth, both population wise, business wise and of course traffic wise. Funds from City of Houston, Harris County, State of Texas and the Federal Government have been allocated to road expansion in our area. As residents it is important to stay informed and to participate in public discussions as this will impact your surroundings and property values.

Of direct importance to residents of Forest Cove are the connecting of Hamblem Rd. to the Houston Green Belt and Bike Plan. This calls for bike lanes along Hamblen Rd. all the way to Woodland Hills. The bike trails would connect to the Bevil Jarrel bridge and onto the larger greenbelt. Not discussed was the potential impact on crime in our area. The project is a joint project between COH, Harris County and TxDOT. Get informed at or the office of Jack Cagle Commissioner Pct 4.

A public meeting for the widening and reconstruction of FM 1960 between 59 and Atascocita / Lake Houston was held Timberwood Middle School on Feb. 23rd. The plan calls for widening FM 1960 to a six lane highway and a flyover bridge for the W. Lake Houston / FM1960 intersection. The project is budgeted at $98 million with 80% of the funding coming from the Federal government. As such, there are mandates such as bike lanes along FM1960 and intensive landscaping. Additionally is it estimated that almost 100 acres of private land will need to be acquired as Right Of Way. The website is:
