Mosquito Attack!

We are spraying 3 to 4 times a week right now.

Yes, it appears we are under a mosquito attack! The recent rains have hatched several years worth of dormant mosquito eggs and particularly in the wooded areas they are swarming. Unfortunately for us in Forest Cove, the city of Houston does not perform mosquito controls. All the spraying is done at the expense of the Forest Cove POA, which comes out of your dues. Currently we are spraying 3 to 4 times a week throughout Forest Cove and we plan to do this until the problem abates. This is a Houston wide problem and we are dealing with it with the resources we have at hand.

There are things that you can do to help as well. Empty out any containers that have standing water in them, including flower pot bottoms, pool toys, buckets and so forth. Keep your grass short and clear out the underbrush from your hedges. Spray damp, moist and shaded areas with repellent. Use mosquito pellets in your yard drains. Clear any blockages in the ditches in front of your house. City of Houston will dredge out your ditch if you make an appointment by calling 311.

We understand there are elderly residents in Forest Cove who can’t go outside because of the mosquitos as well as kids who have to wait for the school buses in the morning while being chewed up. This is why we have put in place an emergency spraying regime of 3 to 4 times a week. Most likely the colder weather will tamp down the mosquito’s appetites and we will start seeing the light at the end of the tunnel soon.

Thank you for your patience and for alerting us to the problem. Rest assured we live here too and are being bit as well! 🙂
